Our Expertise - Domestic Law

This area of law deals with family relations including divorce, guardianships, paternity, custody, and support.

Guardianships: We live in a society where the family unit is not as it used to be, and the ability for the natural parents to assume that role is often not an option due to teenage pregnancies or criminal activity. This has increased a need for other family (often grandparents) or friends to assume the role of primary caregiver, either on a permanent or temporary basis. A guardianship meets those needs perfectly and can be effectively handled by my office. While Wyoming law is clear that a guardianship does not change custody, it does give the primary caregiver a legal basis to enroll children in school or preschool, or to seek medical care and treatment for them.

Divorce: Divorce can be a painful time for the entire family. I will handle your divorce case with professionalism and empathy, but at the same time I am dedicated to aggressive representation. Even in a non-contested divorce I will represent only one party. I will walk you through the discovery process and prepare you for your deposition if necessary. At some point items such as child custody, debts and assets are attempted to be negotiated to settlement. If no agreement is possible, a trial setting is requested and the Court refers the parties to mediation. Many divorces settle during mediation or at some point prior to trial. However, if necessary, although no outcome can be guaranteed other than the divorce itself, I will vigorously represent you at trial. For more information, please fill out the Intake Form, or call my office.
